Gagan Kumar Thapa

Gagan Kumar Thapa is the current president of Nepali Congress, elected in the party's 14th General Convention in 2024. He represents a new generation of leadership in Nepal's oldest democratic party. Thapa served as Minister of Health and Population from 2016-2017, during which he initiated significant healthcare reforms including the Social Health Insurance scheme. He has been a vocal advocate for youth participation in politics. He was first elected to Parliament in 2013 and has won from various constituencies representing Nepali Congress.
